3rd edition of Pasta World Championship


The Pasta World Championship has started in 2012 and this year for the 3rd time Pasta World Championship winner won a trophy of pasta mold which is the symbol of Italian dry pasta.

The idea behind this event is to celebrate pasta and talented chefs which prepare it each day around the world. It is organised by Academia Barilla - international centre which is fully devoted to development and promotion of Italian Gastronomic Culture - which pledges to “defend and safeguard Italian food products, to promote and spread the understanding of these products, and to develop and support Italian gastronomy”.

The competition is opened for chefs who are certified as Italian Cuisine Master Chefs (ICMC). Participants are to cook and present a meal containing pasta, only durum wheat dry pasta, of their own choice. Whole contest is made up of two phases, in the first one out of all participants 4 finalists are chosen, which compete against each other the next day. There are 5 judges, and 4 criteria of evaluating dishes which include: respect for the fundamentals of Italian gastronomy, technique and presentation and taste.

This year’s Pasta World Champion is Luca Torricelli, chef of “L’Argentino Restaurant” in the Swiss city of Lugano. His dish “Sicily prawns spaghetti with Mojito” has won against 24 other chefs from 23 countries. Three other finalists were Giorgio Nava (2013 Pasta World Champion) with "Cape Town Peppadew meets the best of Parma", Armando Capochiani with "Rigatoni with creamy smoked cheese and white truffle"and Giuseppe Zanotti, with "Orecchiette, smoked potato velvet sauce, pork sausage, dill essence, violet potato chips."
